When clicking on a military building, you can select the "Equipment" option. You can equip your units with headgear, armor, weapons, shields, gloves and boots. Your unit can only wear one of each. In case you don't have the desired equipment, you can go to the Forge and craft it. When another unit is equipped with the desired equipment, you can take it off of them and equip the other unit with it.
