By battling other Lords and winning, your position on the map will change to the defeated Lords position. It will not matter whether the Lord is closer to or further from the king. In case you are the king, battling any other Lord and winning will lead to you losing your position! The position change will happen whenever you attack someone and win or someone attacks you and wins.
