You can only own a limited number of buildings of the same type. Once you reach the limit, you cannot place any more buildings of the selected type.

• Click on the "add button" and click on "Add building" to open the building shop.
  
• The limit of each building type is shown above each building
  

• Some researches (e.g. the grain farm building license) increase this limit.
